    Comments: It's a long story,
I am 54 and in good health. I Injured my shoulder slightly while moving furniture over my head. I thought it would heal if I took it easy for a few weeks, but it did not.
I went to my local ortho. he said I had a slight tear and sent me to PT. After about 3 months of PT it wasn't getting better, it was worse! The ortho. sent me for MRIs, x-rays, etc. He said it didn't need surgery and sent me back for more PT. A few weeks later...I am crying tears at night it hurt so bad. I go back to the ortho. and he refers me to his "mentor" Dr. Hasan.
I finally get to see Dr. Hassan, it's been about 6 months since I moved the furniture and experienced a slight injury. But by now my life is miserable with pain and discomfort and getting worse daily. Dr. Hassan sends me for more MRI's and for a fluid draw from the joint. The MRI's are inconclusive and the fluid draw is unsuccessful as there is no fluid on my shoulder. After another meeting with Dr. Hasan, he expresses that there is a 1/10,000 chance my shoulder is infected.
Typically joints get infected after surgery, but I had had no surgery. He sends me for another fluid draw and he receives the results indicating a potential infection. I get more MRI's, and by now my infected shoulder has finally started to become visible on the MRI’s. It was an infection in the bone! And by now....almost 9 months since my first visit to the ortho., I was finally diagnosed by Dr. Hasan. I had endured months of PT for a torn rotator, but all along it was a bone infection.
Surgery was arranged and Dr, Hasan hoped he could go in and scrape away the infection and rinse it with antibiotics and he might be able to save my shoulder.
During surgery, and upon seeing the inside of my should for the first time he realized my situation was critical and more drastic measures were needed ASAP. He did what he could, closed me back up, and made arrangements for a total shoulder replacement.
He also referred me to an infectious disease doctor to manage the infection. Who by the way was also a key component in my treatment and recovery (Dr. Rosa Mateo in Easton, MD).
I was put on a "targetted" antibiotic pic line and had surgery scheduled to put in an “antibiotic spacer,” basically a plastic shoulder joint laced with high-power antibiotics. Dr. Hasan had to kill the infection before he could replace the shoulder. After a few months with the temporary shoulder joint and a pic line, he believe he had the infection under control and the final reverse total replacement surgery was scheduled.
This was my 3rd surgery from Dr. Hasan in about a year's time. He went in and removed all the dead and infected bone and tissue and installed the reverse shoulder. The surgery went great and I was home in 2 days. My recovery was slow at first, I didn't want to mess it up, as it could not be redone again.
It's been a year now....and I feel like Superman. I coach wrestling (now...I don't go live, but I am very active). I am still trying to NOT MESS IT UP, by being too active, but I feel I can do almost anything with my arm, it's strong, powerful, pain-free, and I have about 95% motion, except for behind my back.
I had my yearly with Dr. Hasan a few weeks ago and I am now officially "released." It's been a 2+ year ordeal that almost killed me, if the infection had not been diagnosed by Dr. Hasan it would have spread to my entire arm, chest, body, etc.
I am so thankful for his care and expertise. He is the absolute best at shoulders. He is also a very nice person, easy to talk to, a good listener, and someone you can trust.
I would recommend him to anyone needing the “next level” of shoulder care, he saved my shoulder….and my life.

  • Dr. Hasan is a wonderful doctor. I fell on the ice and broke and dislocated both shoulders! I wasn't sure if they could be fixed. He took the time to make sure to do the right surgery so I could be healed. He did total reverse replacements on both shoulders. He explains everything in detail and spends the time with you that you need. He answers all questions very honestly. He is easy to get along with, very professional and has a great bed side manner. You can tell he really cares about his patients. He gave me a quality of life back in that I can now use both arms again. There are not enough ways I can thank him! I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.

  • I was referred to Dr. Hasan in December 2013 by my orthopedic surgeon because of an unsuccessful shoulder surgery (fractured humerus) performed earlier that year. The humerus healed but the rotator cuff, which was repaired during the surgery, had torn some time after surgery and was not repairable. I had very little use of my arm and sever pain if I tried to use it at all. Dr. Hasan recommended a reverse shoulder replacement which would provide me use of my arm and reduce the pain. I was extremely nervous about having this surgery, and Dr. Hasan was wonderful about taking the time to explain in detail about surgery and what to expect afterwards including precautions while the shoulder healed. Unfortunately, a few days after the consultation, I had a major panic attack and contacted Dr. Hasan’s office to talk to his nurse practitioner, Pam, with additional questions. Dr. Hasan returned my call that afternoon and spent another hour on the phone with me addressing the additional questions/concerns so I would feel comfortable about having the surgery. The surgery went extremely well - with some slight obstacles. Dr. Hasan discovered additional damage that he repaired (this didn’t show on the MRI/x-rays) so that shoulder would be functional. Follow-up appointments were always informative. In addition to Dr. Hasan checking my progress, I was usually armed with two or more pages of questions and he always gave me 100% of his attention and took the time to answer them completely, which I very much appreciated. My five year follow-up appointment with Dr. Hasan was this past week and everything is great. The reverse shoulder has provided me full use of my shoulder/arm with no pain. I can actually dry my hair without using the back of the chair to support my arm to hold the hair dryer and I am able to reach for items located in cabinets above my head, which before the surgery, I thought I would never be able to do again (the simple things in life). Dr. Hasan is an outstanding surgeon, extremely knowledgeable, and truly cares about his patients. Thank you again Dr. Hasan, Pam Brown and your staff for all your help!

  • Dr Hasan did a wonderful job on my shoulder. I was in great pain for over a year with no help. I was referred to Dr Hasan and he fixed my shoulder, the pain is gone and my shoulder works better than it did previously. He listened and was very empathetic to my shoulder issues. The staff is also great.

  • I recently had Elbow Surgery done by Dr. Hasan. I can't say enough about how well the process was handled. From the time I first met with Him to get an opinion on what he could do for me. through Surgery, and now, with follow-up visits I am amazed at the Care & Concern he gives to His Patients. His Staff and Team Members at the Hospital were very caring also! And you can tell that, He is very respected by them as well! It is very rare these days to find a Doctor who has all the Qualities that a Doctor should have, to someone when they are in Pain. I can Highly Recommend Dr. Hasan as, I feel that He has done just that for me! Ms. Hall

  • I am so grateful to Dr Syed Hasan and his team for their compassion and expertise. I fractured my shoulder last Jan and needed a replacement . The Chair of Orthopedics, Dr Henn set me up to see the head of his shoulder surgery team- Dr Hasan. Now, six months the later, I am glad to say that I am greatly improved. My surgery was expert and so was Dr Hasan’s close follow up care. I count my self fortunate to have been cared for by Dr Hasan and the Maryland Orthopedics team. - Richard Colgan, M.D.
  • I had severe arthritis in my right shoulder. As I fell down a flight of steps I fractured my humerus and shattered other bones in that shoulder. My primary care physician recommended Dr. Hasan. He did an awesome job of repairing my shoulder. This was a very difficult shoulder replacement as the pieces of bones were too small to use the traditional method of replacement. Somehow Dr. Hasan repaired or replaced the damaged bits and pieces of my shoulder. I now have a pain fee and well moving arm and shoulder. Dr. Hasan is very nice and professional. He listened to my questions and patiently answered them. He made sure i had the proper pain medication for this major rebuild so I was pain free during recovery. Now that I'm on the mend, I'm scheduling a replacement of my left arthritic shoulder with him. I'm my opinion Dr. Hasan is a masterful doctor and a fine gentleman. I was lucky to be referred to him. Thanks for reading, David Hnat
  • "I recently had surgery with Dr. Hasan and couldn't be more pleased with the results. From the initial consultation to post-operative care, the expertise and attention to detail were impeccable. This was the first time I’ve ever had to have surgery & it went smoothly. I genuinely feel that I received the best possible care, and I am grateful to Dr. Hasan and the entire team for their exceptional professionalism and compassionate care. Highly recommended!"
  • After almost a year of dealing with constant pain and being told by two surgeons that my shoulder could not be operated on, I finally found found. Dr. .Hasan. When he came into the office he made me feel that my problem wssc his most important priority. He looked me in the eye and told me he could fix my pain and he did. He is by far the most competent.surgeon I have ever met. But although that is impressive, what is really remarkable is that he is also very kind and gentle. To have all those traits and one doctor is absolutely unbelievable.
  • Dr. Hasan's surgery on my massive rotator cuff tear has been successful all around! His surgery, regular care after surgery, and recommendations for PT and activities. I have full mobility now and am working on strengthening it further. His help, skills, and advice have at all stages in this ordeal have been invaluable!
  • Dr. Hassan has replaced both of my shoulders. The first completed March of 2022 has completely restored range of motion to my left arm. Prior to surgery any movement with that arm involved pain. I anticipate the same result with my right arm, surgery completed mid-January 2023. Dr. Hasan and his team do any excellent job of keeping me and my family informed of what to expect throughout the process.I am amazed that because of the technique of Dr. Hasan and his team I have had little to no post-surgical pain in both cases.
  • Dr Hasan did a great job on my shoulder. When nobody else could help me he did. After surgery on my shoulder it works better than it did prior to surgery. I feel he was very empathetic and he definitely listened to what I had to say. Not many doctors do that anymore. I highly recommend him.
  • I found Dr. Hasan after I'd had a bad experience for a rotator cuff repair. It was a year after my surgery and I already had a tear in it. Meanwhile I was experiencing pain very similar in my other shoulder. Eventually I had surgery on the second shoulder by Dr. Hasan. It was an entirely different experience, even though the technique and surgery was nearly exactly the same. At 3 weeks post surgery I had less pain and more ability than I did at 3 months with my other shoulder surgery. Knowledge is great, but there is something to be said for technique. I am so pleased to have met him and to have had him do my surgery. While it is a lengthy recovery and takes hard work by the patient in therapy, I believe it is due to the successful surgical attention and post care treatment I received. Thank you Dr. Hasan!
  • I fell and seriously fractured my arm and totally blew up my right shoulder. Dr here where I live told me that it was too bad to be fixed here and referred me to Dr Hasan. I'm so thankful he did. I received top notch care by Dr Hasan and his staff. Would recommend Dr Hasan to anyone.
  • I fell on the ice and broke and dislocated both shoulders. Dr. Hasan did the surgeries to fix my shoulders. He had to do total reverse replacements on both my shoulders. He did an amazing job. I think I was one of his toughest cases. He was always completely honest. Always told us what to expect - even if it could be bad. Which I extremely appreciated. He didn't sugar coat anything - which is what I needed and wanted. I wanted honesty so my family and I knew what to expect. He has a good personality and bedside manner. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor and surgeon. I followed all his instructions throughout this past year and am healing wonderfully!! He gave me my life back when I wasn't sure I was going to get it back (losing the use of both arms was very difficult). For that, there are not enough thank you's in the world. I would highly recommend Dr. Hasan to anyone and everyone.
  • This doctor treated my rotator cuff tear and now I can move. He took care of me when I was in pain.
  • Dr. Hasan had explained my total reverse shoulder replacement in great detailed. I wrote down a series of concerns I had about this operation after I had watched several of them online. He took the time to answer all my question, also in great detail, which satisfied my main concerns. The surgery went very well, my time at the hospital was without much pain and the following weeks at home where a lot less painful then I was expecting. One mouth later I have some more PT to do, but I'm surprisingly doing much of my everyday activities. Dr. Hasan is who I would recommend to my close family members and to my best friends.
  • Dr Hasan is great I put this off for year's. Doc explained everything and everything went as described.
  • Excellent doctor!!! Dr. Hasan successfully treated me for a rotator cuff (and calcium deposit) tear and a bicep joint tear. He has excellent bedside manners and takes time with his patients.
  • I had 4 surgeries before finding Dr Hasan...he was very thorough as he did not want to risk an infection..after 4 years of not being able to raise my arm, I can now touch the top of my head, get a plate out of a cabinet...I had less pain with the reverse shoulder replacement than I did with any of the other surgeries..I cannot thank Dr Hasan and his staff, along with the surgery team at Kernan..enough!!! Excellent communications, caring and wonderful folks!!!!
